Welcome to Art
"It takes a lot of willpower and desire to be an artist hunting for what excites your imagination. It can be difficult because it takes so much discipline to continue." -Barry LeVa
Program Description
The Art Department at Santa Barbara City College allows the student to study and experience art from a range of directions: a well-structured art studio or art history curriculum for the traditional art major; as part of a structured program for majors from other departments such as MAT or Graphic Design; or for enrichment, development and fulfillment of college requirements for the non-art major.
The department offers courses in design, drawing, three-dimensional design, painting, printmaking, artists' books, ceramics, sculpture and art history to provide the student a full background and training for either transfer to another institution or to proceed independently.
The Art Department has also launched a new program in Exhibit and Display Design. This program teaches students how to design exhibits for tradeshows, museums, retail environments, theme parks and corporate branding centers. The exhibit and display design field is growing at a rapid rate and qualified exhibit designers are hard to find. Studentsmay opt to intern with established design firms and pursue a lucrative, rewarding career.

Adjunct Faculty
In addition to the full-time faculty, the Art Department has a strong adjunct teaching faculty. Among this changing group of working and exhibiting artists and art historians are Christophe Bourely, Beverly Decker, Tom Decker, Jackson Dodge, William Durham, Linda Ekstrom, Joy Kunz, Jeff Miller, Michele Onstot, Rafael Perea de la Cabada, Pamela Post, Marie Schoeff, Libby Smith, Barbara Vilander and Ann Wellman.
The Art Department strongly encourages students to complete these Foundation Level courses prior to more specialized courses. Santa Barbara City College is enforcing all prerequisites and registration will be blocked unless the prerequisite courses have been completed.
